House Bill 1192
AN ACT TO CREATE A FELONY OFFENSE OF DRIVING RECKLESSLY AND CAUSING DEATH OR SERIOUS BODILY INJURY TO ANOTHER; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS OF THIS ACT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Any person who drives at over two (2) times the posted speed or otherwise drives in a negligent manner and causes the death of another or mutilates, disfigures, permanently disables or destroys the tongue, eye, lip, nose or any limb, organ or member of another shall upon conviction, be guilty of a felony and shall be committed to the custody of the State Department of Corrections for a period of time not to exceed twenty-five (25) years.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1999.
